This all started as an April Fools’ Day dream.

For years, designing a beer label has topped our list of dream projects. Instead of waiting for the opportunity to find us, we created an elaborate skit and social media campaign to promote a fake beer: Coal Dust Stout. But then, to our delight, our community wanted more!

about the beer:

The Coal Crew has always dreamed of one thing: to create a Coal brew. While we know nothing about making beer, we didn’t let that stop us. Like our name, we wanted to pay homage to our region with our first beer. And what better way to do that than go straight to the mines? Coal Dust Stout is a dark and mysterious brew that blends malted barley with a hint of real authentic coal. We know how to fuel your marketing. Now it’s time for us to fuel your night out.

Malted Barley, Hops, Yeast, All Natural Unfiltered Susquehanna River Water, Refined Coal Dust, The Flickering Light from a Headlamp, The First Five Lines of “Heigh-Ho” by the Seven Dwarves, and a Creative Agency’s Hopes and Dreams

Our “beer” was made with malted barley, hops, and yeast, but also unfiltered Susquehanna River water and real coal. Groove Brewing Co. graciously agreed to partner with us, star in our skit, and print some real labels. We were flooded with comments and DMs from people wishing the beer was real. When Bobby Hughes from EPCAMR saw our skit, a light bulb went off in his head. There was a real opportunity here to combine comedy with education, two our favorite things. All of this resulted in a fun campaign that raised awareness for the amazing work EPCAMR is doing throughout NEPA. And that’s something we can all raise a glass to.

Our dreams of making our own beer would not have been
