The post Why Every Website Needs a Video Strategy first appeared on Coal Creative.

Video content isn’t new, but the way people consume it has changed drastically over the years.

In 2026, video isn’t just something nice to have on your website. It’s often the first impression, the trust-builder, and the deciding factor between someone clicking away or taking action. But there’s a part many brands miss: Not all video content works, and more video does not equal better video.

The websites that are winning right now aren’t overloaded with flashy clips or noise. They’re using intentional, story-driven video that captures attention quickly, communicates clearly, and guides the user toward the next step. That’s where strategy comes in.

Content is King, but Strategy is the Crown

Attention spans are shorter than ever. Visitors decide within seconds whether they trust your brand, understand your value, and want to keep exploring.

Strategic video content helps you do three things exceptionally well:

Capture attention immediately

Tell your story in a memorable way

Compel action without feeling pushy

When video is treated as a strategy, not just filler content, it becomes one of the most powerful tools on your website.

What “Strategic Video” Actually Means

A strong video strategy isn’t about trends or viral moments. It’s about alignment.

At Coal Creative, we look at video through the lens of:

Your brand story

Your audience’s behavior

Your business goals

That means asking the right questions before the cameras ever roll:

What does someone need to feel when they land on your site?

What barriers do we need to overcome?

Where does video support the customer journey, and where might it distract?

The result? Video that feels purposeful, not performative.

After announcing a meaningful tuition reset, MMI Preparatory School needed a video and landing page to convey the emotional piece of its message to its audience. The result? A cohesive web and video strategy that’s driving leads and increasing web traffic.

The power of an MMI education can be best experienced by hearing directly from students. We collaborated with the school to produce a series of videos and website profiles showcasing select student testimonials. Now, we have a dedicated page to push viewers to, allowing them to hear this message with one click.

Where Video Makes the Biggest Impact on a Website

We see the most success when video is used intentionally, such as:

homepage storytelling

A short, compelling video can immediately communicate who you are, what you do, and why it matters faster than any block of text ever could.

service or product explanation

Video helps simplify complex offerings and builds confidence by showing the products, people, process, or results behind your work.

trust-building content

Behind-the-scenes footage, testimonials, and founder stories humanize your business and establish credibility quickly.

calls to action

When paired with clear messaging, video can gently guide viewers toward contacting you, booking a call, or taking the next step without feeling salesy.

The Pennsylvania Horse Racing Association (PHRA) collaborated with our team to develop the Wager Warrior, a pint-sized superhero devoted to teaching others how to win big at the track. By pairing the skit-based videos with an informational landing page, the Wager Warrior is embedded into PHRA’s cohesive multi-platform strategy to increase interest in horse racing and educate the public on the sport.

See the Wager Warrior in action

Why DIY Video Isn’t Enough Anymore

Smartphones and editing apps have certainly made video more accessible, but accessibility doesn’t equal effectiveness.

Poorly planned video can:

Confuse visitors

Dilute your brand

Slow down your site

Make your business feel less professional

Strategic video requires:

Thoughtful scripting

Intentional visuals

Clear messaging

That’s why video works best when it’s integrated into your overall marketing and website strategy and not treated as just a one-off deliverable.

Despite having website content explaining what sets them apart, Metz Culinary Management needed a way to show its target audience the Metz Difference.

Coal Creative’s Approach to Video

Our video department isn’t siloed. They’re fully integrated into our in-house team of strategists, graphic designers, website developers, and copywriters. This allows every video we produce to support a larger goal, not just a moment on screen.Whether we’re creating brand films, website videos, social content, or campaign assets, our focus is always the same. Tell your story. Create an emotional connection. Drive meaningful action.

Learn more.

Looking Ahead

As we move deeper into 2026, video will continue to shape how brands are experienced online. But the brands that stand out won’t be the loudest; they’ll be the most intentional.

If your website doesn’t currently have a video strategy, now is the time to ask: What story are you telling? Are you telling it clearly? And are you telling it in a way that connects?

At Coal Creative, we believe video works best when it’s thoughtful, collaborative, and rooted in purpose, and that’s exactly how we approach every project.

Let’s clear something up right away: marketing isn’t just selling. It’s not about flashy ads or shouting louder than the competition. And it’s definitely not just tossing content into the void and hoping something sticks.

At Coal Creative, we define marketing as something more thoughtful, more strategic.
Marketing is how you share what you do in a way that actually connects with the people you’re trying to reach.

It’s storytelling with purpose. It’s message, timing, audience, and medium all working together, not just to “get attention,” but to build trust and create results.

What Does Marketing Entail?

There are a lot of buzzwords people might sell to you about marketing, but we like to keep it simple: Marketing is the plan.

It’s the framework behind what you say, how you say it, and where it shows up.

That includes:

Clarifying your goals

Understanding your audience

Deciding what platforms and formats make sense

Crafting a message that’s worth someone’s time

Executing consistently and adjusting based on results

In other words, if you’re doing “stuff” online without a plan behind it, you’re not marketing. You’re just posting.

Why Marketing Matters (Even If You’re Small, Busy, or Skeptical)

We’ve worked with clients of every size, from one-person teams to national companies, and here’s the thing we hear the most:

“We know we should be doing something with marketing, but we’re not sure what, or where to start.”

That’s a very normal place to be. But here’s why it matters: If you don’t tell your story, someone else will… or no one will.

Marketing gives structure to your communication. It helps people understand:

Who you are

What you offer

Why it matters

And ideally, it does that before they need you, so that when the time comes, they already trust you.

Collaborate with Coal Creative to Optimize Your Marketing Efforts

Marketing is essential for getting your company’s name out there and connecting with potential clients. It’s also a complex process, however, and many organizations dedicate entire departments to their marketing efforts.

Whether you have an entire marketing division or you’re the sole member of an organization, Coal Creative can optimize your campaigns and put you on the path to greater returns. We’re an all-bases-covered creative collaborator that can help you set marketing goals, conduct research, construct assets, steer your campaigns, and much more.
Consult Coal for a proposal—we’ll simplify and optimize your marketing efforts right before your very eyes.

Coal Creative is a full-service marketing agency that excels in all aspects of production and promotion. From video creation to social media strategy and, of course, bespoke website design, our team works hard to elevate brands to new and exciting heights.

It’s through our web services—and due to our adept design and development team—that many of our collaborators came to know us. Matt Simoncavage and Travis Antoniello are the core of our web crew, and they’ve been building, upgrading, and maintaining our clients’ sites for years.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to sit down with Matt and Travis—or if you’re just interested in learning more about their website creation process—you’re in luck. We interviewed this dynamic duo, and, boy, did they have a lot to share! Let’s explore their approach to online design, how they customize each project for our client’s needs, and what makes these two a cut above your average web team.

What Does the Web Team Do?

What do Matt and Travis do all day, exactly?

Well, they spend most of their time building custom webpages that, as Matt notes, are often “WordPress sites that our collaborators can easily manage and keep up-to-date, or lean on us for ongoing support if they choose to.”

Widely used platforms like WordPress are easily understandable and accessible for our collaborators. They also allow Matt and Travis to create sites that are:

Engaging

Easy to navigate

Modern-looking

Brand-aligned

User-friendly

Digestible

But before Matt and Travis can hop into the website development end of online design, they have to get a sense of a brand’s needs, goals, and style. So, when meeting with a new client, they gather as much information as possible about:

Hosting

Branding

Content

Inspirational website designs

Their vision for the final product

Once they’ve done their research, our development duo starts dreaming up different aspects of the client’s site. Matt does a lot of the design—and he codes as well—while Travis is more of a problem-solver.

When they come together, beautiful web pages are born.

The Matt and Travis Touch: What Separates Their Services From the Rest

Our web team is passionate about their work. They go the extra mile to ensure each project matches the brand’s overall aesthetic and messaging. They also genuinely enjoy challenging themselves to develop exciting, cutting-edge pages that push the envelope and test their capabilities.

We may be biased, but we think Coal’s own website is a stunning representation of this commitment to quality. Matt admits it’s a personal favorite as he got to test out new features like:

Fluid, changing gradient backgrounds that shift from picture to picture as you scroll through the site

Updated imagery, typography, and overall design that took Coal in a new visual direction

Besides their constant drive for betterment and determination to perfect every project they’re tasked with, much of Matt and Travis’s success comes down to their rapport. They’ve spent a long time behind the keyboard together. As Matt puts it:

“I think Travis and I make a great team, and with so many years of experience between us, we’ve gotten to the point where I truly believe we’re consistently doing some of our best work.”

Another recent project highlights this wealth of experience: the website for the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre in Northeast Pennsylvania (NEPA). The sleek design and smooth, functional transitions reflect the lively atmosphere of the concert venue, but it’s Travis’s personal connection to the space that really brought the project to the next level.

As he puts it, “The Kirby Center is a staple in downtown Wilkes-Barre,” and the website was “kind of my dream project for a long time before we finally got the chance to do it.”

We like to think of Coal as a staple in Wilkes-Barre as well, and we love having the opportunity to work closely with brands from NEPA and beyond. And, since our web team just finished up with a couple of their dream builds, they’re searching for more powerful projects to sink their teeth into.

The recent Ticketmaster data breach that caused the theft of over 500 million users’ sensitive data raises an important question: How secure are the sites we sign up for [1]?

And, if you’re a business, organization, or individual with your own online space, you may also be wondering: How secure is my site?

From the final quarter of 2023 to the first quarter of 2024, global cyberattack instances rose by almost 30% [2]. In order to protect yourself from hacks, data breaches, ransomware, and more, it’s essential to practice regular website maintenance on all your pages.

Taking the time to update plugins, change your passwords, and perform other routine digital upkeep can save you, your tech team, and your website’s users from lost accounts, stolen identities, and other headaches. Let’s uncover the basics of website maintenance and explore how you can safeguard your page from looming cybersecurity threats.

How Do Malicious Actors Hack Our Devices and Websites?

Keeping your digital space safe and secure requires a clear understanding of how hackers and other cybercriminals actually attack websites. They can exploit a wide variety of vulnerabilities to gain access to your administrative privileges or sensitive information, but their most common tactics include:

Email phishing scams – These seemingly legitimate messages will link you to fake login portals or malware downloads to steal your user credentials and take control of your accounts.

Untrustworthy websites – Don’t download from any site you’re not 100% certain is safe and honest about their files’ contents—otherwise, there’s a high chance of ending up with malware on your computer.

Physical attacks – These include plugging a USB drive or similar device directly into a computer to steal the information stored on it.

Insecure/public networks – Fraudsters often spoof seemingly trustworthy Wi-Fi networks to grab your device’s information as you connect.

Weak passwords – If your password isn’t complex and secure, it’s only a matter of trial and error for hackers to eventually guess it.

Luckily, with the right know-how and a proactive attitude, you can prevent many cyberattacks before they even begin.

How Can You Protect Yourself From Cyberattacks?

Defending yourself from cybersecurity threats is paramount to protecting trade secrets, maintaining a trustworthy online presence, and safeguarding your users’ data. To minimize your risk of hacks:

Use multiple, secure passwords – Using a singular password is a quick way to get all your accounts stolen at once. Our infinitely knowledgeable Web Developer and Technology Specialist, Travis Antoniello, recommends using a standalone password manager (not the one included in your browser) to generate strong, unique codes for each account you have. Don’t share your passwords with anyone or keep them written in plain text to maximize their security.

Employ Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) – 2FA security such as One-Time Passwords (OTPs) sent via text offer an added layer of protection, as hackers will likewise need access to your phone’s inbox to break into your site.

Hover links before clicking – Hovering over a link shows you the actual URL it takes you to—allowing you to see if the website is legitimate or waiting to steal your information.

Ignore spam – Spam and phishing messages urging you to “log in to Facebook or face account deletion,” and similar, unfounded threats are generally ploys to steal your user credentials. If the message seems suspicious, tries to scare you, or includes an odd sense of urgency (e.g., You only have 24 hours to respond), it’s likely a scam to be deleted and ignored.

How Updating Your Website Increases Digital Security

Alongside the above-listed strategies, keeping your website up-to-date reduces its chances of being stolen and held for ransom, breached for its sensitive data, and more. If you’re running your page on WordPress, Travis recommends:

Keeping your core, plugins, theme, and PHP code as up-to-date as possible

Creating periodic offsite backups for your files and database

Minimizing users with administrative privileges

Enforcing strong password policies across your organization

These steps are easy enough to follow for WordPress, but what if you have a standalone, independently-hosted website to worry about? Well, that’s where everyone’s favorite marketing agency, Coal Creative, comes into play.

Keep Your Site Secure with Coal Creative

Cyberattacks can happen anywhere. Whether you’re located in Northeast Pennsylvania (NEPA), elsewhere in the US, or on the other side of the globe, your site could be at risk of being hacked and stolen. Thankfully, no matter where you’re based, Coal Creative can ease your digital security concerns and keep cybercriminals locked out of your website.

While Coal is in part a marketing firm, we’re also a creative agency and purveyors of robust, meticulous website maintenance. Aside from the traditional tech tasks like updating plugins and testing code, we also offer password security recommendations and digital education for our collaborators.

If you want to learn more about avoiding spam and overcoming other security risks, we’re happy to sit down with you and go over the Dos and Don’ts of maintaining a safe online presence. Or, if you just need someone on retainer to keep a close eye on your site and minimize future cyber threats, we’ve got your back there as well.
Get in contact with Coal to learn exactly how our website maintenance services can improve your homepage and online security.

A website is the creative heart of every brand—a cozy living room, a command center, and a shrine to a company’s biggest and best ideas.

While our previous website served us well, we’ve penned many new chapters in the Coal Creative story since we launched it in 2018. We felt like it was time for a new look and feel—one that more accurately reflected our whole story thus far.

So, we did what we do best: we collaborated with our entire team to create a truly special new hub of all things Coal Creative. And we want to give you a look at the how, when, and why of it all.

Why Now?

Timing is everything. Why was this the perfect moment for Coal Creative’s makeover montage?

“We wanted to modernize the look and feel of our website to better align with our brand identity,” says Holly K. Pilcavage, our CEO.

Key word: modernize. While the last version of our site was certainly a reflection of who Coal Creative was in years past, it was also a reflection of the latest and greatest design tactics of that time. A host of new design trends and back-end tactics have emerged since then, and we decided to tinker with them to:

Level up our look – We want our website to look and feel sleek, stylish, and state-of-the-art. So we took a trip back to the drawing board and rebuilt our visuals with the latest design trends and practices in mind.

Authentically reflect our process – Our collaborators love Coal Creative because our approach produces results. We have our finger on the pulse, we can tell you what works and what doesn’t, and we know how to build unmistakable brand identities.

Holly sums it up best: “A fresh, contemporary design not only enhances the visual appeal of our site but also communicates our forward-thinking approach to design and marketing.”

Road Testing Our Approach In-House

Speaking of our approach, this was also an opportunity to test drive our creative strategy under the watchful eye of our harshest critics: ourselves.

“Throughout the last year, we’ve treated our own company as we would a collaborator: putting intentional thought and care into ensuring our brand truly represented how we have grown as a company,” says Content Director Samantha Buchernatale.

While you can read more about our time-tested process for web design, here’s the gist:

Establish an image – Suss out what you want the final product to look and feel like; then weigh those goals against your current assets.

Collaborate and communicate – We maintained a development server that the whole internal team could access to keep tabs on our design moves. Everyone at Coal Creative had a chance to weigh in.

Don’t skip the minutiae – After building sites for countless collaborators, we know that what site visitors don’t see is just as important as what they do see: technical aspects, page flow, UX, and more.

Polishing Our Tech

This revamp posed an excellent opportunity to showcase our tech chops. Matt Simoncavage (Lead Web Developer & Lead Designer) and Travis Antoniello (Web Developer & Technology Specialist) flexed every technical muscle during our rebuild:

“We’re using the latest and greatest versions of PHP and WordPress, which will give the site a nice performance boost. We also implemented some new image optimization techniques: we’re doing some cool visual tricks without crazy load times,” says Travis. “I whipped up some custom Javascript for a color fading feature and made it so it was easy for Matt to use anywhere on the site. It was satisfying to see it working—even when we tried to break it.”

The result: A site with an airy feel and a tangible flow.

Says Matt, “We had a chance to experiment with a few new back-end techniques, and these give the site a more fluid, open feel.”

Showcasing Our Expertise

A favorite page among our team is our revamped Portfolio: a moving, breathing showcase of our work.

“We’ve completely revamped the Portfolio with a ton of our latest and greatest projects across departments from the past couple of years,” says Matt. “Keeping things simple with our own branding allows for more emphasis on the work we’ve done.”

Visitors can also get a taste of everything Coal Creative has to offer in our Services page. According to Holly, “We were looking to demonstrate the depth and breadth of our expertise and the value we bring to our collaborations. Whether you’re looking for branding, design, marketing, or video production services, you’ll find examples of our work that showcase our creativity and commitment to high-quality products.”

We’re especially proud of our refreshed Portfolio and Services pages, but other team favorites include:

The About page – “I had a blast creating the main image for the About page, which calls back to a few of our favorite team-building moments throughout our company’s history,” says Matt.

The Our Impact page – “Our impact as a brand goes far beyond the services we provide. It’s about the relationships we build, the communities we support, and the positive change we strive to create. Every project is an opportunity to contribute to something greater than ourselves,” says Holly.

Finding the Fun

While our new site showcases the best of our tech, design, and identity-building prowess, it’s also a testament to the sheer fun we have as a team—this is what we love to do, and we wanted that to shine through on our new site.

We had a chance to collaborate with Diamond City Studios to create fresh team photos. This opportunity was especially meaningful for Holly: “We embraced the chance to have some lighthearted fun and showcase our authentic, human side with a few playful shots. As a bonus, it also served as a fun team-building activity.”

Every collaborative opportunity is a chance for us to do what we do best: bring exceptional ideas to life and have a good time doing it.

Coal Creative: Telling Stories, Forging Connections

Our new website showcases the kind of creative team we’ve become over the years: an authentic, expert cadre of artists and storytellers. We’re proud of the work we do, and it’s truly a pleasure to help our collaborators bring their one-of-a-kind stories to life on their own sites and socials.

We’re excited to present our fresh new website: a shining example of what Coal Creative can do for our collaborators.

The post Introducing Our New Website first appeared on Coal Creative.

What’s more, as a retainer client, you don’t have to draft up additional contracts, proposals and offers for every piece of work. Your monthly budget can be put toward whatever services are most relevant at the moment (we’ll iron out the specifics over our monthly catch-up).

The Penguins Goals Foundation: Supporting Youth Sports, Education, and Communities Across Northeastern Pennsylvania

The Penguins Goals Foundation is a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit and affiliate of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins that’s committed to helping young families access sports, education, and necessities. Whether it’s by hosting American Special Hockey Association tournaments, promoting literacy through their Robo’s Readers program, or stuffing a bus with donations of school and hygiene supplies, they offer community support in whatever ways they can.

Based in Wilkes-Barre but operating across Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA), much of their funding comes from local donors. Working with just a seven-person board of directors—plus the help of their beloved mascot, Tux—they’ve been able to use those donations to host a myriad of signature events and bring joy to countless NEPA households.

Removing barriers is what the Penguins Goals Foundation is all about. So, when they came to us explaining that their website was preventing users from accessing key organizational information, we knew we needed to build something more befitting of such a worthy cause.

The Penguins Goals Foundation Asked Coal Creative to Reinvigorate Their Website

As the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ Business Development Manager Mollie Boyd put it, the Penguins Goals Foundation website was “incredibly outdated and haphazardly put together.”

The site simply wasn’t working, and the foundation needed a reliable space to:

Educate others about their mission and charitable actions

Post updates about their ongoing events and activities

Engage with their community—including a way for those in need to reach out to them and ask for support

Collect donations

None of this was possible on their old page and, thus, Mollie feared the site “was not our best foot forward and did not represent the Penguins Goals Foundation accurately.”

Coal’s Web Developer and Technology Specialist, Travis Antoniello, echoed the same sentiment. He believed the half-finished site—which was indexed and discoverable via search engines—was detrimental to the organization’s image. He worried that users who found it may think the nonprofit was inactive or simply didn’t care about completing their web project.

Obviously, the Penguins Goals Foundation does care—they prove it every day through their charitable events and community outreach. Thus, Mollie envisioned the project as “a rebrand for our nonprofit to show not only Penguins fans, but all of NEPA, that we are a resource to them, and we want to help.”

With little salvageable content from their previous site—but a treasure trove of pictures, media, and information to work with—the project was slated to be a ground-up build. So, Coal got to work crafting a superb space for the Penguins Goals Foundation to establish its online presence.

How Coal Brought The Penguins Goals Foundation’s Website Vision to Life

After establishing clear objectives for what the Penguins Goals Foundation wanted their website to look like and accomplish, Travis and Coal’s Lead Web Developer and Lead Designer, Matt Simoncavage, got started on the project.

The first order of business (and part of every other step along the way) was fielding Mollie’s questions—of which she admits she had “maybe too many.” As Mollie notes, however, Travis (who was her primary point of contact on the project) was unwaveringly patient and expertly answered every one of her queries.

You see, Travis and Matt were tasked with building the site, but they weren’t solely responsible for filling its pages with content. The duo worked in collaboration with Mollie, who took on the responsibility of writing all the website’s textual elements. Thus, the team used their industry knowledge to guide Mollie “to make better choices in regard to SEO.”

As Mollie got to work authoring the site’s content, Matt and Travis tackled building the actual web pages. Aside from carefully catering the site’s layout, ensuring its functionality, and optimizing its navigability, Matt also had to decide what media to use to represent the team and organization. Fortunately, there was ample material to work with. As he recalls:

“The foundation gave us access to the WBS Penguin’s official Flickr account, with thousands of great photos of the team, events, and programs. Narrowing down the best of the best for use on the new website was truly a challenge.”

But it was a challenge he thoroughly enjoyed, and the media he ended up selecting for the site now perfectly suits its new theme, content, and aesthetics.

As Matt was sorting through Flickr, Travis got busy studying up on the organization’s affiliations, supporters, and community initiatives. After establishing his base of knowledge, he used it to customize the Penguins Goals Foundation’s layout and “make navigating the site a fun and engaging experience.”

When all was said and done, Travis, Matt, and Mollie combined their different elements to create a seamlessly functional, aesthetically-elevated website. Then came the final question from Mollie: How does this all work? As she puts it, “[Travis] really took the time to onboard me and get me well acquainted with the website so that it can evolve with our ever-changing foundation.”

Regarding the process as a whole, Mollie had nothing but high praises to sing about Coal Creative, stating:

“Working with the Coal Creative team was an absolute delight. The entire process was seamless and enjoyable from start to finish. The team demonstrated a high level of professionalism and expertise. All communication was prompt and efficient.[…]. It was the sense of collaboration that really gave me confidence as someone who has never made a website before. It was evident that every member of the Coal Creative team is so passionate about what they do.”

Positive experiences are important and powerful, but they need to be backed up by an exceptional final product. So, the question remains: how did the Penguins Goals Foundation like its new website?

The Proof is in the Pages: How the Penguins Goals Foundation’s New Website Bolstered its Digital Presence

Before Coal finished the Penguins Goals Foundation’s new website, Mollie believed “the programs we did were not well represented online. Our stakeholders couldn’t have confidence in their donation because they didn’t know the impact of their dollars.”

When the site went live, however, it “transformed the way the Penguins Goals Foundation is perceived by [its] fans.” As Mollie describes it:

“Now when fans ask questions about the foundation, not only can we verbally share our favorite programs, but we can give them the visual aid. This is the first season people have come up to me to talk about our programs. People are asking me how they can help and how they can donate, all thanks to the new website showcasing our mission in an engaging way.”

In essence, the foundation now has the tangible digital presence it had envisioned before creating its website. The project modernized how the organization shares its news and activities, and the site provides “an online portfolio to showcase and platform all the work that the foundation does.”

The site’s not only a functional space, however—it’s likewise a uniquely beautiful platform that reflects the vision and aesthetic of the foundation. Mollie was beyond thrilled with the site’s final design, stating:

“The Coal Creative team captured the essence of our brand with the website without sacrificing any functionality. The website not only met but exceeded our expectations with the attention to detail and creative flair exercised by the minds at Coal Creative.”

Balancing aesthetics with purpose and functionality is always at the heart of Coal Creative’s builds. When crafting a site, we seek to incorporate unique, bespoke elements that beautify the overall design and distinguish the brand.

When working on the Penguins Goals Foundation’s site, Coal was able to utilize the organization’s wealth of brand assets to dream up “neat design concepts that were fun to develop, like the Penguins logo being a part of the page headers.” If you browse the site, you’ll also notice other unique graphics sprinkled throughout its pages that both enhance its aesthetic design and reflect the foundation’s emphasis on sports, charity, and community.

Overall, Mollie is “in love with the website [as] it fully embodies everything the Penguins Goals Foundation is!” Coal Creative is also proud of our work on this particular project—not just for the success of the final product, but likewise for the amazing cause we were able to support along the way.

Fabulous, Functional Websites Are A Necessity for Modern Businesses—So Build Yours with Coal Creative

If your current website is like the Penguins Goals Foundation’s original page—half-finished, yet indexed and discoverable via search engines—you may have a big problem on your hands. 97% of internet users utilize search engines to find local businesses [1]. If what they find, however, is a broken, bland, or badly designed site, they’ll think twice about purchasing your goods or patronizing your services.

Nearly 30% of small businesses have an even bigger problem—they have no website whatsoever [2]. These businesses are missing out on a huge chunk of the modern market by passing on a digital presence and, as more of the world moves online, they risk becoming obsolete and unprofitable.

Whether your website is non-existent, out of whack, outdated, or simply in need of a minor tune-up, partner with Coal Creative to expedite and optimize your online presence. As our continual collaborator and new friend Mollie puts it: “If I had to make 100 new websites, I would choose Coal Creative every single time.”

Just like we did with the Penguins Goals Foundation, we’ll support you and your organization every step of the way from ideation to creation and maintenance. Request a proposal to join the hundreds of other happy clients who have perfected their websites with help from Coal.

Websites are a lot like cars: they’re shiny, powerful, and fully functional at first. Yet as time passes, they need regularly scheduled maintenance and upgrades to retain their original glory.

With your sedan, you may need to change the oil or rotate the tires. Similarly, your site’s content will need to be refreshed, its plugins switched to the latest versions, and its security checked against contemporary hacking techniques.

At Coal Creative, we never let our clients’ websites get rusty. Instead, we offer comprehensive website maintenance—regardless if we built the original site or someone else did.

Why are we so passionate about website maintenance? Let’s unpack the importance of routine upkeep and explain the varied services we offer that will help your page remain modern, functional, and secure.

What Happens When You Don’t Maintain Your Website?

Not maintaining your website can cost you dearly down the road. If you don’t have a professional routinely check and update your site, you run the risk of:

Sharing misinformation – Times change and so too should the information posted to your website. If you’ve moved locations, keeping your old address posted could lead customers to the wrong doorfront. Similarly, product pricing and stock must be up-to-date so you don’t mislead potential clients regarding the costs and availability of your goods.

Data breaches – From Facebook and Yahoo to Alibaba, even the web’s most secure, routinely updated platforms have fallen victim to data breaches [1]. The best way to prevent them for your site is to have it routinely checked by a professional who knows how to exploit security vulnerabilities and can quickly patch and update any flaws in your protocols.

Incompatibility – Big electronics brands are constantly introducing new smartphone, tablet, and computer models to the consumer market. Meanwhile, there are at least nine major internet browsers in daily use around the globe [2]. With routine maintenance, you can ensure your site renders properly across as many mediums as possible and adapt it to new devices and technologies as they arise.

Downtime – Broken code, plugin errors, and update issues are three of the main reasons why sites unexpectedly go down [3]. Routinely maintaining your site means checking and testing the code to ensure it doesn’t crash once it’s live, scrutinizing and verifying every plugin you activate, and updating all of its elements. Even if this means taking your site offline for a scheduled period, it’s better than experiencing an unexpected outage and scrambling to find the cause.

Becoming outdated – A lot has changed since the internet went public in 1993 [4]. Back then, sites were basic pages consisting of little more than a blank background and some informative textual elements. Sadly, some sites haven’t evolved much past this early format. Unfortunately, 81% of modern consumers immediately think less of a website if they find it to be outdated [5]. So, if you don’t routinely maintain and update your website, you’re not just harming your brand—you’re hurting your chances of attracting customers.

Luckily, routine maintenance isn’t rocket science—it’s, well, computer science. And, here at Coal Creative, that just so happens to be the type of thing we specialize in.

How Coal Can Help You Meticulously Maintain Your Site

If you’re starting from ground zero, we can help you build your website to match your business’s ambitions, aesthetic, and needs. Then, we can discuss the kind of maintenance you’ll need to keep your online space in tip-top shape going forward.

Even if we didn’t build your website, we can still take care of any issues or ideas you have on the maintenance end (after all, you don’t always take your car for repairs at the manufacturer, right?).

Some of the key website services we offer include:

Page and post updates – Changed your prices, products, or persona but haven’t yet updated your website? Coal can masterfully write up new descriptions, add on beautifully shot photos, and bring your site in line with your brand image upon your request. That said, as a leading creative agency, we don’t just update your pages and call it a day—we do it with a unique panache that’s sure to capture your users’ attention.

Page additions – Starting a blog, expanding your services, or adding a community page? Don’t do so with a generic, uninspired template. Instead, call on Coal to build beautiful, functional, and bespoke web pages from the ground up to give your site its own unparalleled flair.

Emergency services – Remember those data breaches and site crashes that can happen without proper maintenance? With Coal on your side routinely checking your page, we aim to stop them before they even have a chance to begin. However, if you forgo maintenance and your site does unexpectedly go down or has its security breached, we’ll be actively waiting to get it back online and do damage control.

Consultation – Some business owners are also tech-savvy individuals who can handle their own routine maintenance and updates. Once in a while, however, we all encounter an issue that seems unfamiliar and daunting. If you usually do your own upkeep but suddenly find yourself needing a helping hand, don’t hesitate to confer with Coal’s expert designers and developers to sort the problem out and get your site back on track.

Education – Maybe you strive to perform your own website updates and maintenance, but don’t yet possess the skills and knowledge to do so. No problem! Simply schedule a web training session with Coal’s competent representatives and they’ll teach you the ins and outs of keeping your website in working order.

Monthly checks and updates – Many of our customers don’t think about website maintenance. Instead, they simply have us check in monthly and ensure everything is functional and up-to-date. During monthly maintenance checks, we’ll make sure you’re utilizing the latest security protocols and your site is compatible with emerging technologies and new devices.

Whatever website services you need—from building to expansion and maintenance—it’s always best to go with trusted professionals who know customization and coding like the backs of their hands. And, whether you’re in Northeast Pennsylvania (NEPA) or anywhere else in the world, there’s no competing with Coal’s extensive knowledge and expertise.

Partner with Coal Creative for All Your Website Maintenance Needs

While certain businesses are defined by their leaders or ideas, consumers generally recognize brands through their aesthetic features, rather than their commercial operations.

In fact, recent studies into product design reveal that customers are more likely to choose aesthetically pleasing items from brands even if they’re not as functional as their plainer counterparts [1]. Similarly, well-designed websites have been found to boost consumer confidence and inspire more sales [2].

Put simply, business aesthetics often outweigh function when it comes to winning consumer trust—and your brand’s creative assets are the primary way in which consumers experience your business. In this edition of Creative Juice, we’ll discuss the importance of crafting memorable, well-designed creative assets to boost your social media presence and, ultimately, your brand’s success.

What Are Creative Assets and Why Are They Important?

Creative assets encompass the content users see in your advertising campaigns, on your website and social media pages, and on your products. There is a wide variety of creative assets a business may choose to represent itself with, including:

Logos

Branding elements, such as signatures colors, and fonts

A website

Social media pages with well-branded graphics and video content

Physical mediums, such as business cards or pamphlets

These assets are essential to your success because they speak for your business. Together, they help you tell your brand story and allow consumers to easily identify and connect with your brand.

How can you take advantage of these assets? Check out the following tips:

Spice Up Your Social Media

Memorable creative assets are particularly important for bolstering your social media presence. 90% of users follow brands on social media and nearly 80% interact with businesses via their messaging services [3] [4].

In essence, social media is the primary way in which consumers engage with brands. Using memorable creative assets enhances the user experience and keeps your brand at the top of consumers’ minds—even after they’ve left your page.

To keep your followers engaged and excited, utilize:

An identifiable tone in your posts and client interactions

An easy-to-remember handle across your different accounts

Consistent aesthetics, such as a quickly recognizable logo for your profile picture

And we’re not just talking about photos or graphics, either. These days, video is king, with Reels and TikToks dominating the bulk of shared content. Having well-branded video content ensures you are telling the story of your brand—in the way you want. From scroll-stopping ads to heartwarming employee highlights, make sure that all your video content aligns with your brand’s tone, voice, and look.

Lean on a Lovable, Laudable Logo

Think of a globally-recognized company, corporation, or brand. More likely than not, you’re already picturing their logo—especially if it’s a particularly memorable one. From the signature swoop to the golden arches and those coffee-curating mermaids, the world’s biggest brands have instantly recognizable logos.

This kind of instant recognition is key in a consumer market where logos are the true face of your business. Case in point: 75% of modern consumers say they identify brands by their logos—so pick something that will stay tattooed in their memories for years to come [5].

Stick to Your Signature Shades

Some of the world’s biggest brands aren’t only recognizable by their logos, but also their associated colors. The most famous sports cars and cola cans, for instance, come in brilliant shades of red—and we don’t even need to mention company names for you to recognize them.

Other brands go all in on company colors by creating and copyrighting their own hues. Some of the most famous examples of this include [6]:

UPS’s bespoke brown

Barbie’s patented pink

Target’s robust red

These signature shades not only give brands their own unique flair, they also help boost recognizability. Once you have a custom color associated with your business, brand awareness and recognition can increase by as much as 80% [7]. So, to build an association between your company and its colors, consistently choose the same eye-catching shades for your social media pages, website, and other platforms.

Optimize and Stylize Your Site

Websites are essential for conducting business in our modern commercial landscape—though nearly a third of brands are missing this crucial asset [8]. Furthermore, it’s not enough to just have a website; it must be aesthetically pleasing and fully functional, too.

As mentioned, consumers place a higher degree of trust in websites they deem well-designed [2]. Additionally, users are exceptionally quick to form opinions about a website—taking, on average, just 0.05 seconds [8].

Because your website is often your customer’s first impression of your business, their image of your brand may be instantly sullied if something about your site is off. So, when designing your website, follow your brand’s style and aesthetic, but ensure it’s easily navigable and glitch-free as well.

Make Assets Memorable Across a Myriad of Mediums

While consumers will mostly encounter your brand via digital spaces such as social media and your website, physical mediums are still important for your overall brand experience and story.

Business cards, for example, are still highly relevant to contemporary commerce. Approximately 27 million are printed every day and, when they’re creative and memorable, they can be incredible assets for your company [9]. Even simply adding color will make consumers hold onto them ten times longer than if they’re black and white—so bust out those signature shades once again [10]!

Business cards aren’t the only physical advertising medium to consider, either. Depending on your targeted demographics, you may also want to think about crafting:

Pamphlets

Flyers

Ads for newspapers and magazines

Such mediums are particularly influential to consumers aged 65 and older, a majority of whom admit to making purchases directly influenced by print advertisements [11].

No matter what creative assets you choose to utilize for your business, however, remember to make them your own and tell a consistent brand story that consumers can instantly recognize across any touchpoint.

Crafting Hot Creative Assets For Your Business? Fire Them Up with Coal!

Dreaming up and designing memorable creative assets is key to telling your brand’s story. But not everyone has the visionary, artistic, or technical skills to create logos, websites, social media posts, and other key assets.

If you need a helping hand with these endeavors, working with a reputable creative agency can facilitate bold and beautiful creative assets. At Coal, we can suggest designs, dream up prototypes, draw out drafts, and revise assets to your liking.

So, if you’re looking for a creative collaborator, you know just who to call.

In the digital age, building a trustworthy, functional website is paramount to success for individuals, brands, and organizations. In fact, over three-quarters of consumers check out a company’s online presence before considering going into one of their real-life, brick-and-mortar stores [1].

On top of that, 94% of internet users will simply click away from websites they deem poorly designed—bad news for organizations who haven’t updated their page since the days of GeoCities [2].

While web design and coding can seem complex, crafting exceptional web pages doesn’t need to be an insurmountable task. To help you refine your approach to website building, we’ve asked Matt and Travis from Coal Creative’s web team to share their expert insights.

Establish an image and idea

Prior to drafting your first design or coding your first line, it’s key to establish a vision for your final product. If you’re already working from an existing image or brand, imagine how to incorporate it into the finished site.

At Coal Creative, Matt and Travis first “[discuss] the vision of the website with our collaborators and [review] their current assets.” That way, when mocking up visual design elements and a sitemap, we have an idea of brand aesthetics and imagery that will be incorporated into the final product. This allows us to steer development and construction from an early stage, ensuring we incorporate visual elements as necessary, rather than having to restructure later to squeeze them in.

Some “final details” that you may actually want to think about early in the web-building process can include:

Color schemes

Logos

Photos

Established copy, such as company history or mission statements

Utilizing these elements during the design and mock-up phase means drafting a solid blueprint to follow during the building process. It also helps collaborators get an idea of what their site will look like when completed.

Keep clients in the loop

At Coal, our collaborators can keep quick tabs on their projects by monitoring their website’s progress on a development server. If you’re also designing a site for a client, keeping them up-to-date on your progress means there’ll be no surprises or major revisions when it comes time to launch.

If your clients do request revisions during the build, you’ll be able to cater to their exact standards. This reduces the chances of having to repeatedly rework different elements and makes it simpler to achieve your client’s vision.

Maximize mobile potential

Mobile devices account for well over half (58.33%) of all internet traffic and, as recent trends indicate, that number will only continue to rise in the coming years [3]. Thus, it’s essential to optimize every website for both desktop and mobile browsing. Not every organization has (or even needs) a dedicated mobile app, so be sure to access your build from your laptop and phone before going live to eliminate any visual or functional inconsistencies.

At Coal, every site we create is mobile-friendly and focuses on delivering an optimal user experience (UX). We work closely with our collaborators to ensure their site runs smoothly on any device—from gaming PCs to Smart TVs.

Don’t overlook the obvious

Meticulous mapping and careful coding are the backbone of reliable websites, and these underlying elements can make or break their functionality. Dwelling on these aspects, however, can often cause designers and developers to miss the forest for the trees.

To keep your build detail-oriented, Matt and Travis share some of the most overlooked aspects of website design:

Well-written content and appealing photography – While appearances are important, if your offerings lack substance, you’ll quickly upset your clientele. Blurbs and blogs should be engaging, informative, and topical. Likewise, visual content, such as photos or graphics, should be aesthetically appealing and on-brand.

Navigational menus, page flow, and UX – Designers and developers can take their familiarity with a project for granted and forget that not all users are as technically inclined as they are. To that end, try to step back and look at your build with a new set of eyes. Is it easy to get from page to page, find what you’re looking for, and generally fun to browse? If not, perhaps it needs some retouching before launch day.

Technical aspects – Elements such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and accessibility practices are some of the final aspects Coal implements in our builds. Other technical aspects, such as performance optimization and hosting, should likewise be fleshed out in the late stages of the website-building process. While these tasks may be last on the list in order of workflow, they’re paramount when it comes to functionality once your site goes live.

Collaborate with Coal to build breathtaking, fully-functional websites

If you want to streamline and simplify your website’s build, consider collaborating with the pros here at Coal Creative. Matt, our master designer, will work alongside your creative staff to establish an image, idea, and outline for your page. Then, Travis, the developer of the duo, will bring your vision to life—and teach you how to operate, maintain, and optimize it going forward.

Building websites is complex, but it doesn’t have to be impossible or unnerving. With the key tips outlined in this guide—and some outstanding support from our web wizards—your site can enchant browsers and have them coming back for more.
