What Does the Web Team Do?
What do Matt and Travis do all day, exactly?
Well, they spend most of their time building custom webpages that, as Matt notes, are often “WordPress sites that our collaborators can easily manage and keep up-to-date, or lean on us for ongoing support if they choose to.”
Widely used platforms like WordPress are easily understandable and accessible for our collaborators. They also allow Matt and Travis to create sites that are:
- Engaging
- Easy to navigate
- Modern-looking
- Brand-aligned
- User-friendly
- Digestible
But before Matt and Travis can hop into the website development end of online design, they have to get a sense of a brand’s needs, goals, and style. So, when meeting with a new client, they gather as much information as possible about:

- Inspirational website designs
- Their vision for the final product
Once they’ve done their research, our development duo starts dreaming up different aspects of the client’s site. Matt does a lot of the design—and he codes as well—while Travis is more of a problem-solver.
When they come together, beautiful web pages are born.

We may be biased, but we think Coal’s own website is a stunning representation of this commitment to quality. Matt admits it’s a personal favorite as he got to test out new features like:
- Fluid, changing gradient backgrounds that shift from picture to picture as you scroll through the site
- Updated imagery, typography, and overall design that took Coal in a new visual direction
Besides their constant drive for betterment and determination to perfect every project they’re tasked with, much of Matt and Travis’s success comes down to their rapport. They’ve spent a long time behind the keyboard together. As Matt puts it:
“I think Travis and I make a great team, and with so many years of experience between us, we’ve gotten to the point where I truly believe we’re consistently doing some of our best work.”
Another recent project highlights this wealth of experience: the website for the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre in Northeast Pennsylvania (NEPA). The sleek design and smooth, functional transitions reflect the lively atmosphere of the concert venue, but it’s Travis’s personal connection to the space that really brought the project to the next level.
As he puts it, “The Kirby Center is a staple in downtown Wilkes-Barre,” and the website was “kind of my dream project for a long time before we finally got the chance to do it.”
We like to think of Coal as a staple in Wilkes-Barre as well, and we love having the opportunity to work closely with brands from NEPA and beyond. And, since our web team just finished up with a couple of their dream builds, they’re searching for more powerful projects to sink their teeth into.
