Throughout 2017, we are working with our interns to highlight 52 Creatives from the NEPA region. We believe creativity is a broad term that cannot be easily confined within the walls of one simple definition. We want to know what being creative means to you and how you bring that creativity to light.

Keith Kratz is our sixth #NEPACreative of 2017. Keith brings creativity to the area through illustration and graphic design!

Keith is an active participant in local art events, particularly First Friday Scranton, displaying his award winning artwork in a number of shows. He is also one of the founding members of the Scranton based, NEPA Design Collective, a group created to build and support the NEPA design community.

When asked how he creates such works of art, Keith said, “I work in Manga Studio EX 5 and Photoshop paired with my Wacom Intuos 4 tablet to draw and paint my latest works.” This didn’t happen overnight though. “I have been drawing and sketching since childhood. Although, I didn’t become serious about art until high school when I realized I had some talent and enrolled in private lessons to hone my skills. During lessons, I practiced traditional mediums like graphite and acrylic paint. In college, I was introduced to graphic design and digital design software. Eventually, I began illustrating digitally as well.”

Keith went on to say, “My creativity is never switched off, and I find digital illustration is the perfect way to channel it.” He told us that he never particularly enjoyed working in traditional mediums, so being introduced to the digital process was game changing for him. Working digitally provides endless possibilities of realizing his artistic ideas.

“Through my pieces, I hope to bring more recognition of digital painting and illustration to our area as another means of expressing creativity.”
